Dig World Early Review - I Can't Stop Playing This Addictive Steam Game

Dig World Review - Early Steam Review | JellieRose.com

I've been playing Dig World for the past few days. The game itself doesn't come out until the 17th of this month, so shout-out to the devs for letting me play this game early. I already have 32 of the 60 achievements, and I plan on getting them all.

This game is super simple and addictive.

Just One More Run...

Dig World is a run-based game, so you have a time limit to dig and gather as many resources as you can. But you can't just gather them; you also have to return them to your shipping box for them to count.

Some of the item descriptions are hilarious.

Here are a few:

Jawbone - "No more talking."

Sausages - "A string of mystery meat-meat sausages."

Rotten Foot - "A detached foot in questionable condition."

They had me rolling.

There are 400 items total, and I have around 250 of them so far. They come in different rarities: Common, Uncommon, Rare, Epic, and Legendary. There are also artifacts you can find that give you buffs.

My favorite thing is that as you earn achievements, a lot of them give you permanent stat increases to help with future runs. There are a few that don't give stats, though. One of the earliest ones, without giving too many spoilers, is simply... touch a cow.

Upgrades, Crafting, and Progression

On top of the regular items, there are also crafting materials. They're included in the 400 total, but they're in their own little section. They're used to upgrade your equipment, upgrade your mine, and you can forge lower-tier materials into higher ones. There is a small chance for forging to fail, though, and it also costs money.

On top of getting extra stats from your equipment and achievements, you also have a level-up system where you can fill out your skill tree. I went heavy into stamina to begin with because it felt like I was always running out... and honestly, I still do.

Now there are two different currencies: money and chips.

It took me forever to figure out what chips were for.

OUTFITS AND HATS.

Sorry, but they're too cute.

I started with a wizard hat and the princess dress.

Wizard princess for the win!!!

Now I have a box on my head. The description basically says our princess's beauty is just too much for everyone's eyes. I couldn't help myself.

There's Always Something to Do

There is just so much to this game that I'm not done discovering everything yet.

You have missions that, based on certain conditions, reward you with money and experience. Then there are contracts where you're looking for specific items to turn in for even more money and experience.

When you're looking through your collection, you can actually see where you've found certain items before, so you at least know what areas to dig in. I kind of just pick a few contracts and hope I eventually complete them while I'm digging around.

It looks like if an item isn't part of a current contract, it automatically gets sold. So there's no banking items or choosing what gets sold and what doesn't.

I guess that's the only part that drives me a little nuts. Of course, my hoarder self would never have any money because I'd probably keep everything.

Final Thoughts

That's about all there is to the gameplay. You keep doing runs, collecting everything you can, unlocking achievements, upgrading your gear, and trying to complete your collections.

I've really enjoyed this game, and it's something I've played at least a few runs of every day since I got it. The grind is honestly a lot of fun.

The music is really cute too.

If you're looking for a relaxing game that's easy to pick up but hard to put down, Dig World is definitely worth checking out.
